In 2018 the iconic venue suffered from devastating storm damage and required significant refurbishment works. After successful fundraising and repairs, the venue was soon restored back to its former glory hosting live music events. Whilst the venue restoration was a success, musicians and guests reported a poor sound quality during performances in the mains space.

BBA were asked to provide design advice to improve the sound quality during live performances and reduce noise levels during day to day use and functions.

Acoustic advice was provided for the design and selection of Asona sound absorbing panels to reduce the reverberation across specially targeted frequencies. The design met some interesting challenges, maintaining the heritage look and feel of the Boathouse, whilst providing a multi-use acoustic environment.

Users of the venue have reported a fantastic improvement from musicians and the public.
